About Alan Durnwirth

I’m Alan Durnwirth, a Seattle-based designer, author, and lifelong photography enthusiast.

I’ve had a camera in my hands for more than four decades. What has always drawn me to photography is the opportunity to slow down and notice what might otherwise be overlooked—the lines of a building, the way light changes a familiar place, or the details that reveal something about how a structure was designed and built.

Architecture has always fascinated me. I’m interested not only in how buildings look, but in their history, construction, materials, and the decisions behind them. Photography gives me a way to explore that curiosity and preserve what catches my eye.

Most of the photographs on this site were made simply because I wanted to. This isn’t so much a commercial photography portfolio as a collection of the architecture, places, and details I’ve found worth stopping to notice.
